Hi,

Usually I install my macs with a separate /Users partition mounted under /Users via /etc/fstab (something like "UUID=28585855-8981-3F2D-B501-400104DF76F3 /Users hfs rw 1" in /etc/fstab).
Time Machine never complained about this and I could always restore files
from the backup.
Now my Notebook got stolen and I tried to restore from my last backup on a new computer. Everything was restored perfectly but not the content of the partition mounted under /Users. Neither the Migration Assistant nor a regular Restore (as root, after the system was setup and the Time Machine backup was patched with the new mac address) could found anything in the backup that is under /Users. If I mount the Time Machine backup media I can see that the physical data of my user accounts are there but I can not restore them :-(

Now my question:
1) What would be a "Time Machine - compatible multi partition" setup? Where do I have to mount the my Users partition in the future?

2) Can I somehow retrieve the data from my existing backup? I can copy the data but then they have some nasty ACL's set I have to patch more or less manually.

Thanks in advanced for your opinion /jeko
