Which models started having the multi-touch trackpads in the MBP's? Not talking names like Penryn, I'm not too familiar with them. I'm talking processer speeds. Reason is, I'm looking into buying a refurb 2.2GHz 17" and was wondering if it had the multi-touch, and the LED screen.

Hiya!
The multi-touch feature only appears in the current range of MacBookPro's.
They all have Penryn based Core2Duos technology (45nm) in them.

Non of the previous models have the multi-touch feature and users can't add it!
I suspect it's not just a firmware update but a completely different trackpad.

Okay, thanks! I couldn't seem to find the previous model specs on Apple's website. I thought I'd ask here since I've been reading here for months and just now signed up.

Hm. Do you know about the LED screens? What models started getting those? Hopefully the 2.2GHz

The only 17" you'll find with multitouch and/or LED will come with a 2.5GHz/2.6GHz GPU and a 512MB NVIDIA 8600GT 512MB VRAM

Also they don't even sell a 2.2GHz 17" anymore (if ever)

They never made a 17" 2.2GHz. Closest is 2.16GHz 17", that was Core Duo. They started doing it this February, with 2.4GHz & 200GB standard, 256MB nVidia 8600m GT, and 2.5GHz & 250GB standard, 512MB nVidia 8600m GT. the old 2.2 with 120GB drive, 128MB nVidia 8600m GT and old 2.4GHz with 160, 256MB nVidia 8600m GT don't have multitouch, but have LED. The only 17" are: 2.16GHz (old Core Duo), 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, 2.4/2.6GHz Core 2 Duo, and 2.5/2.6GHz Core 2 Duo.

The 17" screens don't have LEDs. the ONLY ones which are 17" LEDs are in the newest ones, the Built-to-order option.

.. or as an in-store 'ultimate' model

2.6 7200k 200g drive 17" 1920x1200 HD screen (matte) for $3199 US (in the united states)

Currently, only the "Early 2008" Macbook Pro models has the multi-touch enabled trackpad.

Alright, I think I'll just go ahead and get a new 15.4" MBP. It'll have what I want, in a smaller size. Thanks :D
