What are the chances that the old MBP touch pads that supported 2 finger scrolling are actually multi-touch pads? I not, what are the chances of purchasing a new replacement keyboard and putting that on an old MBP and getting multi-touch?

The multitouch is hardware based, not software based. The Macbook Air and the new MBPs have a chip that is also used in Iphone to provide the multitouch capability. I'n not sure that changing just the keyboard would help, I think that the chip is on the motherboard.
