multichannel 5.1 WAV files won't play in iTunes/Quicktime

I've got some great-sounding 5.1 WAV files down here on my macbook. The only problem is: they won't play in iTunes nor Quicktime, only in VLC (what a great program that is... it plays really every file format man has come up with...). But i want to have the music on my iPhone and iTunes, so i guess i'll need to convert it. Any idea's anyone?
