I'm trying to multiclip (4 cameras) some 1080p Apple ProRes (HQ) files in Final Cut Pro. I'm using a MBP (2.8 C2D, 8GB, 9600M GT) and a FW800 7200RPM external drive. No matter what, FCP can only play the clips for about 3 seconds before it freezes/lags. I've put the RT to unlimited and changed everything to dynamic in playback.

Is it simply because my MBP isn't fast enough? Would it be wise to change it to ProRes Proxy for the offline and reconnect the HQ version at the end or would proxy still be too much for my machine?

Cheers

Storage is too slow for 4 streams of 1080p ProRes HQ. If your MBP has the ExpressCard slot you have the option of buying an eSATA card and using eSATA-based storage. If not you'll need to go the offline/online route. Proxy and LT should be fine to use.
