First - sorry this post is so long, but in order to explain the problem and hope for an answer, I need to be very specific.
Here's the set-up:
I'm using an American PB. I have the American keyboard set to behave as a Norwegian keyboard 99.9% of the time, although right now, while typing this post, I have the keyboard set to behave as an American keyboard. I also have a bluetooth Norwegian keyboard. I touch type and usually do not look at the keys, and have basically forgotten where the symbol and number keys are on the American set-up.
The background:
I want to be able to type an apostrophe while the keyboard is set to behave as a Norwegian keyboard. There is almost no call for an apostrophe while typing Norwegian, but the situation does come up once in a while. In addition, I do a lot of translating, and want to be able to type in English while my keyboard is set to behave in Norwegian (because it's too much of a hassle to switch over every time I need an apostrophe, and I feel much more comfortable in general with the Norwegian set-up).
The problem:
As you can see, I'm typing and using apostrophes, and they look fine. But if I go over to the Norwegian keyboard set-up on the PB, I have to resort to using the key directly to the left of the delete key on the American keyboard (the one that has + and = on it) to make something that resembles an apostrophe. Here's what it looks like:
I´ve you´ve they´ve (have set the keyboard to Norwegian for this one line). As you can see, it´s not really an apostrophe. I didn´t notice it myself until another poster responded to one of my questions and asked what was up with my apostrophes.
So I check out the physical set-up on my bluetooth Norwegian Apple keyboard, thinking that'll show me the key I need to use when I've got my American keyboard set to Norwegian behaviour. It's the key directly under the "escape" key, the one that has the paragraph sign that looks like two letter s's for the upper-case choice, and what looks like an apostrophe for the lower-case choice.
But the weird thing is, while this key works great on the bluetooth Keyboard when the PB is set to Norwegian set-up, the same key on the American keyboard gives me < for lower-case and > for upper-case on the PB when the keyboard is set to Norwegian.
What gives? Is it impossible to type an apostrophe on an American PB when the keyboard is set to Norwegian? I´ve really spent time on this and tried all the combinations I can think of.
