If not, is there a free app I can use to achieve this? The crops need to be custom shapes, not grids or perfect squares. Thanks.

You can crop any shape but making it a file will result in a rectangular image file. Try the Preview app. Show the Markup Toolbar and use the Lasso Selection tool to select and copy (to Clipboard). Then, File>New from Clipboard.
