trying to build an external hard drive rack. What i did was take an old desktop power supply, jumped it , and used it to power 4 hard drives. Even installed a fan and an LED to remind me its on. i have an adaptor that plugs in to the data port and usb on the other end. Problem is i have to plug it into only one hard drive at a time. Is there a cable that will plug all 4 hard drives to one usb ? Like a fan out but with usb ?

Why not just use an external USB hub?
Your drives would be getting sufficient power, so you might be able to use a bus-powered hub, but a self-powered hub would still probably be better.

Deltamac, that idea worked perfect. I bought a powered 4 port usb hub. Not only was i able to connect all 4 hard drives I also was able to add the DVD. I added a fan, on off stitch, and found a 5 volt wire to run the usb adaptor. so you only have to plug in one cord and it powers every thing up with one switch. Thanks much for the post.

lets see if i did this right
