As the title states... If I update the phones/ipads from iTunes, do I need to download the update for each device? Or, once downloaded, can I just copy the update file to each of the Macs in the house and go from there?

Seems like it would be a good thing, and it would cut down on the traffic to the Apple servers.

You can share the update file, but the update file is different depending on the device.

If you have three GSM iPhone 5s to update, for example, you could use the same update file for all three. Assuming they have the same model number.

But if you had a GSM iPhone 5, a CDMA iPhone 5 and an iPad 4, you'd need three update files.

yeah, it would be three iphone 4S's, an ipad mini and an ipad 4... so probably just as easy to do it late at night and just let 'er rip.
