As my username suggests, I am non-techsavvy. The only reason I am here is because I spent more than a week discussing my issue with Apple support who ultimately could not resolve my problem and ended up messing several other things instead (which I shall mention here).

The Problem: After logging into App store and clicking on the option "Buy" for OS X mountain lion, I am prompted to put in payment information. After updating that, I click on "Done" which then prompts me to put in my AppleID password. After putting in my password, I click on "Billing info" and then NOTHING HAPPENS. There is no download that begins. Nothing changes. I am back on the page displaying the OS X mountain Lion info as if I never took any action. After doing this repeatedly, I contacted Apple support which said that there might be an issue with my credit card. Just to check that, i bought another app. And there were no issues.

As a means of resolving my problem, Apple support decided to reset my credit card information from their side. So the next day, after Apple support has reset the information, I find that my AppleID password no longer works. I reset my password several times but I can't sign in to either App store or iTunes. BUT the surprising part is that with my newest password I can log into my AppleID account on the website! I then contact the Account Security people at Apple who after an endless chat of resetting my password, ask me to put in my original password. And that works!!!

So now I use two different passwords: the passwords for App and itunes store were never reset in spite of me getting emails telling me that my password has been reset whereas the newest password works on the AppleID website.

To end this: I still can't seem to be able to buy mountain lion and now my passwords are all screwed up! Some applications accept my old password while some accept the new one. And when I updated my iPhone to iOS 6, neither my oldest nor my newest password worked. So I had to reset it again.

I have spent hours talking and writing to Apple Support and have received no useful answers. Could someone tell what's going on???
