So here is the situation.

I have an phone number tied to my Apple ID that I use for work, it's on an iPhone 4S.

I would like to add an iPhone 5 to my family plan but want to be able to get texts and phone calls all on one phone.

Since in iOS6 it let's you tie a phone number into your Apple account would it work to set up the new phone with a new number with my existing Apple ID?

So, in theory, if this works I would be able to forward calls from my business line to the iPhone 5 and answer texts to the business line since it is all in the same Apple ID (all of the people in our office have iPhones so all use iMessage).

One shameless bump.

I'm reading of people freaking out that after updating to iOS6 they are getting iMessages on multiple phones that all use the same Apple ID, which they didn't want. I guess this bodes well for me.

I think you can assign the same Apple-ID to multiple iPhones and devices to send and receive the same iMessages (just add the email in the iMessages settings), however, I don't know whether you can use the same Apple-ID for multiple iPhones. I want to say that it's possible but I'd be shooting in the dark.

Its only imessages that will sync across, not calls and not SMS.

Well I will just forward the calls. As SMS goes, no one in my office is using a phone that would send SMS messages (unless an iMessage can't go through) because we are all on iPhones.
