I have a few different Mac products, and my Mail is getting really wonky.
First problem, I have a MacBook Pro from 2007 or so. A few months back, it just stopped taking in new mail when I open it, and has very few of my old emails in the Inbox or Sent folders. Just flat out won't work. Assuming I have to reload Mail somehow, but can I recover the old mail? I do Time Machine backups, there should be some of it there....? And how do I get Mail to reload as an app so I can get that to work properly going forward?
Second problem: On a newer MacBook Pro from last year, which I've been using primarily for email via Mail, all of a sudden, hundreds if not thousands of Sent emails have vanished from that folder. How do I get them back from the rapture? And the "Get Email" button has been iffy for a long time. If I push it, even if I know I have an important email coming through, it won't retrieve emails unless I turn the program, or perhaps the entire computer, off and on again.
If my Sent emails are gone for good because I didn't perform an individual backup of those folders, can they be restored from the server? My Mail program is working fine with my iPhone 3GS and first gen iPad, and on my first gen MacBook Air. Can i restore at least some of the Sent emails by backing them up from my iPad, and if so, how do I do that?
First, want to back up the data that seems to still exist (most likely on the Air), but second, really want to get Mail working on all these devices so I don't have to pick and choose what I'm using for email. This isn't a setup problem, btw -- Mail worked on ALL of these devices initially and the failures happened with me not changing any settings.
