`I've got a 1 TB Samsung T7 SSD drive connected to my 2020 Mac Mini. I keep my music files on this drive, and my Music app is pointed to the drive. I also use this drive to play music on another Mac Mini I've got. (I have the music library file on the Samsung, and each Mini is pointed to that as well.) But lately, when trying to play certain songs, I get an error message that Music can't find the file. But all of the files are in the specified folder on the Samsung. If "Locate" the file, it's right where it should be and then it works.
When I looked at the file info for the songs, I found something odd (at least to me). The file location for the songs that will play is what I'd expect: Samsung/iTunes/iTunes Media/Media/Music/Music/xxx. But the file location for the songs that can't be found are at: File:///Volumes/iTunes Library T7/Music/xxx.
Then I used Disk Utility to look at the Samsung drive, and it has four volumes, but three are not mounted. The "Tree" in Disk Utility is:
Samsung PSSD T7 Touch Media: This is an external drive with "GUID Partition Map" and Child Count 2.
Below that: Container disk7: This shows iTunes Library T7 (the name of the drive); "3 not mounted". It says there are four volumes. Type APFS Container.
Below that: iTunes LibraryT7. This is an APFS Volume. It says it has 740 gb used, and 208 mb on "Other Volumes"
Maybe all these volumes are normal. But it seems to me that a bunch of my music files, although visible in Finder, are somehow segregated in a different Volume.
I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it so that all of the files can be played.
Any suggestions? should I run Music/File/Library/Organize Library? Or will this make everything worse?
