Multiple Widgets Opening on top of Eachother?

Today, I noticed that my 15" G4 PowerBook 1.5GHz w/ 1 gig of ram, slowed to a screeching halt.
I started to close programs to free some up, so I started with dashboard, the usual nemesis.

When I went to close a few that I barely ever use, I noticed that there were two copies open, stacked neatly on top of eachother! There were two instances of each widget open, and I was completely innocent! I didn't open two, I'm not that click-happy.

This has happened on several occasions... can you think of a reason why or a way to stop it?
