Hello,

does anyone know, whether there is a Multiport adapter like the one below but instead of HMDI with Mini-Displayport?

The reason I'm looking for it is that I would like to connect my old Apple Cinema Display (from 2010) to a brand-new Mac.

Thanks!

Do you need a multiport?
Would a USB-C to mini Displayport adapter cable do the job for you?

If you need an adapter with a female mini DP socket, you can find those, too.

I'm not aware of any adapters you seek. The problem is that the mini-displayport cable is fixed to your cinema display.
Some thoughts:
You could use your suggested adapter and add a HDMI to mini displayport (female) adapter but feedback on Amazon seems pretty bad: HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Adapter
If you can spare one USB-C plug for video and one for USB-A (camera, mic, hub, speakers) it would be easy:
- 1. USB-C to female mini-displayport adapter: USB Type C to Female Mini DisplayPort DP Adapter Support
- 2. A simple USB-C to USB-A adapter or a hub with multiple USB ports and card-readers; If your Mac is a Laptop, look for Power Delivery (PD) so that your device can be charged through said hub with your original power supply without wasting another of your precious USB-C ports

So my goal was to reduce this all down to a max of 1 USB-C port on my MacBook so that all I have to is just to plug in 1 cable into my MacBook. It’s just weird that apple has the multiport adapter for HMDI and VGA but not for MiniDisplayport…

Apparently too little demand… How about that combo:
1. Hub with Power Delivery, USB A and Displayport
2. Displayport to Mini Displayport adapter
Should be everything you need for half the price of Apple‘s HDMI adapter.

Hmm you’re right, that should do it! I would’ve preferred less adapters, but as long as it does it’s job I’m happy. I will try it out. Thanks!

So I got the equipment as described above and USB and power works, but the Apple Cinema Display stays black. Any idea what could cause that?

I have the LED Apple Cinema Display 2008, model number A1267

I tried to connect an Apple MacBook Pro 13” 2020, model number A2338

That’s too bad... Regarding protocols and directions of the adapter, it should work, nothing wrong there.
However, it seems that Apple‘s Mini Displayport displays and M1 were a tricky combination.

One would assume, all incompatibilities would have been eliminated by now and all adapters would work.
For completeness’ sake, in Apple‘s discussion forum this one was recommended but requires a separate port: https://www.uptab.com/usb-c-to-mini-displayport-adapter-4k-60hz-silver/

Do you see anything besides the internal display in “About this Mac > System Information > displays“ ?
I‘m still on x86 so can‘t be of much help. Hopefully someone else with an M1 can shine some light on this matter.

I would contact Apple. And when you‘re at it, the last combination I could think of, is your linked adapter in post#1 and then a HDMI to female mini Displayport adapter
But your current solution seems more straightforward (Thunderbolt > Displayport).

It does not say anything about the external monitor under system info.

Just fyi - with a simple mini-DisplayPort to USB-C adapter it works to connect the monitor.

Maybe there is another straight-forward idea. Is there a multiport adapter that would take USB, usb-c power delivery and usb-c (for external monitor) as input?

I tried to connect a ThinkPad with the same setup. Monitor wasn't showing anything. Maybe the Mini DP > DP adapter is faulty?
I noticed that the hub only works up to 4K. My monitor has a 1080p resolution, but the Mini DP > DP adapter allows up to 8K. Could that create an issue for the hub that only works up to 4K?

I think I found a few options for what I originally asked for:

1. A bit of an overkill but it has all the ports needed for ~$50: https://www.hypershop.com/products/...macbook-pc-usb-c-devices?variant=362482728985

2. A hub that contains exactly the 3 required ports but connects in a way to the laptop that it would cover other ports. Costs ~$20:
3. And lastly my favourite, as it comes with a little bit of cable length and one extra USB-A port at a cost of ~$25:

Thoughts?
