lately i have been asking myself why apple is keeping multitouch as such a special feature related only to new devices.

i think a simple software update could actually bring it to any laptop (am i wrong?) and make it just a feature included in leopard more than a marketing tool to sell new hardware.

well, i don’t know if it is just me or if there are other people out there asking themselves the same question...

Well, there is a different multi-touch chip in the new MBPs and the Airs, so its doubtful a software update would do anything

This has been covered before. The new laptops use the chip that's in the iPhone/iPod Touch for multitouch gestures. A software update wouldn't (couldn't) do squat.
