Musc files shown as shortcuts. cant be opened

so i transferred all my music from an external hard drive to another hard drive that has been formatted for mac. the music albums all are shown only as shortcuts and cannot be opened. when i try to open it it tells me to select or download an app that can open the file.do they have to be converted to a different type of file? or do i need an app to open them? ive tried using itunes to open but nothing happens. thanks in advance
