Hi,

After years of paying subscriptions, I’ve decided to just put my own vast music (bought) collection on to my Mac and iPhone. I’m trying to do this on the Apple Music app for both and it does work however only when I connect my phone and click sync. BUT if ever I want to trade up my phone or mac AND keep playlists, how can I?

I’ve just tried it and if I want to have a clean install on my phone or Mac and have all my music back on my phone or Mac and keep all the playlist, how can I as the only option I can see is to backup/wipe and then reinstall the backup which I don’t want to do and not even sure if that will work.

Any ideas?

Matt

You'll need to restore your Mac from a backup, or at least restore the iTunes Music Library. If you choose to copy media when importing, the entire thing is self-contained in that folder. If you chose not to copy the media in, you'll need to keep the media as well, and make sure it's either in the same place, or use the relinking options in iTunes after restoring.

Not sure I understand. So if I copy the music over and it sits in my music folder. Backing that up will restore the playlists as well?
