Music bought on iphone not playing or showing up in itunes lib.

The songs I've purchased off itunes, while on my iphone, are not being shown in my itunes library when I sync up.
The songs purchased off itunes while on my laptop are showing up though.

Purchased music appears on my "purchased on iphone" playlist on the iphone ipod only. Songs will not play thought.
If I select a song to play, the filled in "playing" triangle icon flashes up next to the clock and battery icon, so I guess it's at least trying to play it but fails.

The songs had been playing and showing up on my itunes library up until a few days ago. Not sure what's happened in that time.
I realized there was a problem when I tried to play a song I purchased using the iphone while in my itunes library. It wouldn't.
I noticed an encircled exclamation point showing up next to the song numbers. Read online that I just needed to wait, re-select and that it'd be ok. Lies . Lies.

I've been looking online for help but haven't really found any that relates to this specific situation. ANY IDEAS AND ADVISE ARE WELCOME.

So I did as you recommended.
Music appeared.
Happiness ensues.
! Appeared.
Songs still wouldn't play on itunes.
Exited itunes hoping that reopening the program would make it better.
After restarting my iphone and re-syncing with itunes the music didn't appear again.
right click. redid transfer. nothing appeared.
looked on my iphone ipod.
sayed it was up loading changes.

Music gone.
what the hell.
guessing there's not a way to restore it at all now.
Overwhelming sadness.

Do you have iTunes "keep your music organized", and if the songs you purchased are gone, you can email apple and they will usually let you do a onetime redownload. Is your phone running 3.0?

Just right click on the phone and choose "transfer purchases". Is that your question?

Thanks so much. Had seen several posts re: resetting library, resetting iTunes, reloading music. This solution worked for me and once I hooked up iPhone, right clicked mouse and chose 'transfer purchases' they appeared in 'Purchased' in iTunes.
