Music Box, an app available in Cydia, lets you "search and download any mp3 music for FREE".

After the backlash against the initial release of evasi0n and it's inclusion of the piracy-filled Chinese equivalent of Cydia, why am I not seeing anything said about this? Is pirating apps unacceptable but music is okay?

You seem to think that people judge based on parameters outside their own experience. Rarely anyone does, and when they do they have it wrong most of the time.

I personally use MovieBox, because Hulu isn't available and Netflix just doesn't cut it. It's not like I want to pirate, but buying movies\tv-shows seperately is atrociously expensive. Same goes for music, I use spotify.

Not really commenting on the rights or wrongs of it. Just seems a bit hypocritical to go nuts about software piracy in a Chinese Cydia equivalent, but say nothing about other forms of piracy in the real Cydia.

Been like that ever since the first app piracy has been around. Wait until you read where people freak out on those pirating apps and then backup and justify reasons for pirating music and movies.

It makes no sense, but does provide for a good laugh every now and then.

I'm going to try to explain in an easy way:
You put sources in Cydia not apps/tweaks. To get the music box app you need to add the source that is hosting said file. Think of Cydia as a Web Browser and each source a website that has files and apps that work with your computer. Is up to you what sources you want to add. Big difference.

It wasn't the piracy issue. The issue was. They thought the Chinese can get our information. Movie box and music box. Been around for a couple years now.

I know how it works. Music Box is on the BigBoss repo. While this is independently owned it is automatically included with and, by Cydia's own admission, works closely with Cydia.

Like I said, not commenting on the rights or wrongs of it. Just find it surprising that the jailbreak community, known for its insistence that jailbreaking is not about piracy, seems to condone it when it's music or movies rather than software.

pandora downloader is basically the same thing, my friend gets that and makes a music collection from downloading pandora songs.

Didn't know music box was still in big boss. They removed movie box a while ago. Prob not enough people complained.

How is that surprising to you, we ( the JB community ) need the developers to keep developing apps and tweaks to make JB worthwhile. Pirating their apps directly harms them and could drive them out of the JB scene. Therefore it directly affects us so that is what we care the most about. Music & movies are not directly tied to our very existence so that gets a lesser degree of disdain.

TBH I get the feeling that you do understand that.

When I referred to the jailbreak community, I was talking more about the developers. I find it surprising that Cydia (Saurik I suppose) automatically includes, and has close ties with, a repo that has apps used for piracy.

The jailbreak community fights to get away from this image of itself as some shady underground thing, and to be seen as a legitimate group. You can't take the moral high ground selectively. If piracy is wrong, then it's wrong in any form, surely?
