Hey,

since a while, can't tell exactly when this started, but definitely not before High Sierra, likely later, on my mac the start/stop and skip forwards/backwards buttons refer not just to itunes anymore like they used to, but play and pause everything that's in focus now. SUPER annoying, like I used to listen to music, then launch a youtube video, and pause itunes by hitting the pause button on they keyboard. But now, instead it stops the youtube video while itunes keeps playing.
Is that a bug or by design? Does anyone know a way to fix this back??

In fact, itunes is not controlled by the buttons anymore AT ALL, not even if it's in foreground..

Its by design, and I like it. The only thing that annoys me is that they don't work for the DVD player anymore. If I'm watching something and press pause, it will load iTunes. Not that is annoying!

It never works for my iTunes anymore.
Not even when iTunes is in the foreground and the only app playing anything. Da hell?

It is a completely broken system. I made a post about this and am seeing new posts every week. And yes, even when you switch back to iTunes and try and use the key's they don't work. Absolutely ludicrous.
