Every now and then, when I wake my iPod while playing music, I'm greeted by next/previous/pause buttons on the "slide to unlock" screen. However, I can never seem to reproduce whatever I did to bring it up. Usually, they're not available, even while playing. Does anyone know what I'm doing to bring this up? It has me stumped...

You are probably hitting the Home button twice. If you double-click (not too fast) the home button when the Touch is in standby, it will display the basic music player controls on top of the lock screen. Very handy for controlling the music player without unlocking.
