Music files on external files not visible. Only artwork

Please help. A friend gave me an external drive with 160 gb of music on it however when I open the music folders I can see all the artists, then I click on on an artist andcan see all the albums but when I click on th album to see the tracks, they aren't here, just the album artwork and 2"exec" files aswell. Funny thing is that when I get info on the original music folder it says 162gb but then when I go into it to see all the Artists each artist file is only a few kbs ... Can anyone enlighten me ? Thanks a ton
