on the home screen you have your main icons on the bottom: music, itunes, photos, and videos.
my music icon is missing on the 32gb touch. i looked through all of my apps and could not find it.

the strange thing is that i put the ipod into my ihome dock and pushed play and the music files/playlists showed up just fine and started to play.

i know it sounds like a simple solution..just restore the ipod right?
it's FULL of music and i was just wondering if anyone has had this issue before and if there was something simple i could do?

you didnt accidentally put it in a new home screen? if you held the icon for a few seconds and accidentally dragged to a new 'page', thats where the music icon would be.

However

he said he looked through all his apps

He didn't say he paged through all his apps. Not knowing the level of familiarity of the OP with his iPod, the statement is vague enough for someone to think that the OP just studied the one page. Questioning whether all the pages were checked is valid IMHO.

Try double clicking home button, then press music.
Or lock the ipod, double click home button, press play, then unlock, music screen?
Restarting the iPod?
