Music management on iPhone

Can someone tell me how to manually manage loading music onto the iPhone? All I want are a few songs and playlists. My iTunes library is too big to fit everything. Thanks.

I am new at this and a screen shot would be helpful if possible.

When you connect your phone to iTunes, on the main screen that shows up (with a 3D pic of your iPhone at the top) there should be a checkbox near the bottom that says "manually transfer music" or something. Sorry I can't post a screenshot since I'm at work, but hopefully you'll find it.

Yes. Check the manually manage music box. Then you can just drag the music you want onto your phone (wirelessly if you have the network). Smart playlists & genius playlists are your friend as well.
