Music Notation/Sequencing Software Question

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and hope I can get some help setting up a music recording "studio" on my new iMac. I'm trying to get it together with GarageBand, and need a notation/sequencing program that would allow me to drop and drag notes to the music staff, select dotted notes, tie notes and such, and have it be compatible with playback tracks in GarageBand, all without making me go crazy. I've been trying to get into Easy Beat, which I've found to be easier to understand than either Aria Maestosa or Inteum, but the process of inputting notes and setting up their duration has been frustrating. The tutorials never seem to address proceedures in musical terms, or in a manner that would be helpful for someone more musically oriented. I used to use Yamaha's QY 10 sequencer and found it to be very easy to use, yet musically satisfying. Does anyone have advice or suggestions along these lines? I'd really appreciate any help.
