MIT researchers are working on a satellite that could accelerate space research. The research is being done at a Kendall Square Lab in Cambridge, MA. An unmanned Russian Progress 12 will liftoff Thursday to start testing at the International Space Station.

This is quite cool - an array or flock of satellites working together. Taking the distributed computing idea to 3D and also has some interferometric possibilities if the algorithms work.

Allow a series of satellites or probes work separately on the same task makes them cheaper, smaller and upgrading could just be a matter of adding new ones to the flock.

Good stuff!
