Music on home server, want to sync with iOS device

I have a server at the house that has all of my music and what not, what I'm wanting is a way to be able to make the music appear to be local on my laptop so I can add it to my itunes library without adding to to my laptop. Also I want to able to sync it to my iOS devices, which I should be able to do if it looks local to itunes. Any ideas on how to do this?

edit: my server at home is running ubuntu
