Music playback on Watch won't resume with bluetooth headphones

When I have BT headphones paired to my Watch and am playing music directly from what's stored on the watch, I can pause the music by pushing the button on the headphones, but a second button push doesn't resume playback; I can only resume playback directly from the watch face, after which I can pause again using the headphones but, again, can't resume playback using the headphones

I've reboot the Watch with no luck

I've tested this with the new Powerbeats Pro as well as another pair of headphones I have, the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 3100

Anybody else experiencing the same?

BTW, when either of these headphones are paired to my iPhone and I do the same thing, pausing and resuming from the headphone buttons behaves as it should, ie, normally
