I have a mid 2007 core 2 duo iMac with 3 gb if ram. I'm also running Mavericks. I was thinking about maxing out at 6 gb. I honestly want a MBP so I cN move around. Are the MBP just as good as iMac for music production? If so, which one?

Other than interface considerations, any current Mac model can easily handle music production tasks, including the Mac mini.

MacBook Pro should handle the software, no problems.

But I sense that you're going to miss the larger display of the iMac -very- quickly.

For audio production, the larger (and wider) the screen, the better.

Although, if you do get the MBP, you might get a separate display to go with it.

For audio production, one of the new 29" "ultrawide" displays might come in very handy.
I use a 27" "mid-res" display, the Viewsonic 2770 -- very nice for my "older eyes", but younger folks might find it "too grainy"...

A good starting point for the monitor search is this page:

Think I might go with a MBP and a monitor. Thanks!
