I’m trying to localise my music library from an external drive to the internal ssd and make it smaller. I’ve been coping the actual song files and importing it into a new library. This seems to reset all the times I’ve played the songs, as well as if they are loved etc. is there a way I should be doing this to preserve this? I cannot copy the whole library onto the internal drive as it’s too large.

thanks

What I would do is to make a copy of the entire music libary as backup, then I'd delete songs/albums until the library was small enough, and then move it onto the internal ssd. That way you'd keep all your listening history and ratings.

I'm not aware of any other way to preserve those attributes, although possibly some script at https://dougscripts.com/itunes/index.php might be able to export and import song metadata.

That sounds like a good idea. Do you know what play count attaches to. I’m assuming the library itself rather than the metadata of the actual music file? I.e. transferring individual songs won’t transfer that data?

thanks
