Music resume playback is bugged and starts from beginning

Does anyone else have the problem that when using AirPods to listen to music and you take them out of your ears for a few minutes, when you put them back in and want to resume playback, the music player starts from the beginning of a recently played album?
This problem exists since iOS12 and is mighty irritating.
I guess it has to do with Siri suggestions of music, but disabling them has not helped.
Anyone else with this problem?

I made a thread about similar issues two years ago (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-10-and-the-failure-to-resume-playback.2016081/). I've found some improvement since then, but still not where it needs to be.

iOS should just follow one simple rule of thumb: resume playback of the last thing you were listening to, no matter what else has changed (time, location, headphones, etc.)
