Music software questions

I'm looking for a program similar to Cakewalk Home Studio which I'd like to use for recording midi and vocals. I'd also like to take karaoke tracks and be able to record vocals with them.

What will work?

Haven't had the pleasure of using it yet, but won't GarageBand do this? And for pretty cheap too?
