Music Syncing Question

I have a 120 gb iPod Classic and a 16gb iPhone 3GS. With the iPhone I usually put all the newer albums that I am listening to as well as my playlist and then carry my entire library on my Classic.

The issue I am having with the iPhone is that I want to manually sync my artists/songs/albums that I throw on there but I want to auto-sync my playlists because I am constantly changing them.

There doesn't appear to be a way to do this. I can auto sync by artist and playlist but that doesn't work because I don't want to sync every album by a particular artist.

To summarize, I want to be able to manually drag and drop specific albums/songs on to the iPhone but I want my playlists to auto sync. Is this possible?

How about making a playlist called, say, "iPhone," and manually edit that playlist to include/delete the songs you want?

That idea is so crazy, it just might work!!
