Hi,
I have close to a hundred music files that won't play, they have no file ending (.*). They were transferred from a now formatted computer (no way to recover). I have no idea how to get them to work.
If I give them an AAC ending RealPlayer will give me the following information but it won't play them. Since it tells me the length of the song it must somehow recognize it.

I really want to help my friend with this problem so I would really appreciate your help.

I have tried VLC it doesn't work. You can try the sample I included yourself.

I've just tried that but QuickTime and VLC won't play it.

Was the original computer a PC or Mac? What's the origin of the music, was it ripped from CDs, etc.?

It comes from a friend's Windows machine. He had it in his Music folder and he was able to play it.

He used a "jukebox" program that he doesn't remember the name of and we don't know if there ever were file name extensions. I know I'm not very helpful but thank you for your help.

Is it possible to look into the file's raw data and find out something?

You're sure these were audio files?

Could they have been something else like a midi file...?

I'm pretty good when it comes to music files (side job, hobby) but had absolutely no luck with this file. I put this file through a barrage of music apps, adding every possible file extension. Everything came back as a text file. Even ran it through File Juicer. Nothing but text. My only suggestion would be to try these files on another Windows machine see if they can be played and then converted to a more universal file type.

IS THAT A CHALLENGE?!?!?!?! *spittle*

... one which I will have to look at when I get home tonight.

Nothing's impossible. Highly improbable, perhaps, but... :)

Yes, yes lets call it a challenge then!:D
Thanks
