Got a new iPhone 13 Pro Max and restored my backup from iCloud. When I go to Music on the iPhone I see all my Playlists but they have no songs. Gone!!! Now, let me be clear: I don’t have Apple Music, all my songs are old from CDs that I added to iTunes over the years. I have a backup with all my songs but don’t know how to get them back to my iPhone. My MacBook does not have iTunes so need help to find a way to get my songs from an external HD to my iPhone (could copy them to my MacBook as well). Thanks!!!

I used the 'free' icloud backup to restore my iPhone and then I used a computer with Itunes and ran a sync. The sync copied all of my music to my iPhone. I'd suggest you load iTunes on your Macbook, add your music to the iTunes library and run a sync.

Thanks. How do I load iTunes to my MacBook running Big Sur?

Quick question: I successfully added the songs on my MacBook to my iPhone using the Music app. Now, when I plug my wife’s iPhone into the same Mac, I see it but cannot add the same songs to her iPhone. Any thoughts on what is wrong? These are my songs from my CDs not purchased from Apple.

You still should be able to. If you connect your wife’s iPhone to the MacBook, does it appear in the Finder? If yes, what happens when you click on it and then on the Music tab? There should normally be an option to synch all music or selected playlists. You may need to confirm that you “Trust” your MacBook to be used with her iPhone, so check if any messages pop up?

Did you update the iPhone 13 Pro Max before you restored from iCloud? Apple stated there was a bug with Apple Music that would cause the iPhone 13 to not show your music library until you updated the software out of the box. There was a launch day update they provided that fixed the issue.

So the order should have been set up iPhone as new>update software>erase all content and settings>restore from iCloud backup.

You can try updating the software since you already loaded the backup and see if that fixes the issue for you.

Yes, I can find her phone in the Finder. When I go to the Music tab and try to copy all songs it first gives me a warning that if I sync her phone it will replace the contents ….. and something about you can only sync with one computer. When I did mine I got no warning at all and all songs were transferred into my iPhone.

This warning is normal, as your computer is probably linked to your Apple ID, while your wife’s iPhone has a different Apple ID? If she does not have anything in her music on her iPhone right now, you can proceed and your computer will populate the music library on her iPhone. If she ever wants to add something else to it, either she will need to use your computer again or another computer which will override her music library again. Apple style. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks, I really appreciate the advice. It is my computer and it has my Apple ID and it is where the songs are stored. I was concerned that it would erase something in her phone. I will try later tonight.

Since you guys are so helpful I wonder if you can help in another issue. I subscribed for Apple One and have my wife and two kids on Family Sharing. My kids have access to everything. My wife can only use iCloud. Apple Music, although it shows she is part of a Family Sharing in her phone, asks her to subscriber on her own. Spent 2 hours with Apple Support and they cannot figure out what is wrong.
