I got a MBP 16" M1 Max a few weeks ago and I want to get some accessories for it - I have a few things I know I want to buy, but I'm curious what else I should get to use it around the house, in bed, and outside the house on the road / in hotels.

What I'm planning on buying, but need help deciding what brands are good:

  • Screen cleaner - friend uses "Screen Mom" spray + cloth, was probably just going to get that
  • HDMI Cable - probably just going with a highly rated one on Amazon
  • Power bank - to use on the road to charge my Macbook over USB-C. I was thinking about getting a high wattage Anker since I've used Anker for years. Thoughts?
  • Carrying bag - shoulder bag, backpack, carrying case. What's a good brand that makes bags/packs/cases that will protect a MBP 16" from general transportation (Maybe 1-2 foot drop, gently banging against a wall or something like that, etc.). I've heard Thule is good from a non-sponsored Youtube video, but the reviews aren't amazing on some of them.

I've been using this sleeve for years and absolutely love it. Every time I get a new computer, this is the first thing I buy.

For cleaning, I use Whoosh. I use the Woosh spray but I have the overpriced Apple Cloth. Honestly though, its a fantastic cloth. 90% of the time I don't even need to use liquid and the cloth gets the job done.

Do u use Apple cloth with Whoosh? I have both but using ordinary microfiber cloth.
I have 2 Apple cloth for few months but I still havent try it.

If I have a stubborn speck on my screen, then yes. I will use just a drop of Whoosh on the Apple cloth. Just enough to loosen the speck.

Thank you everyone for the replies, my shopping cart's price is a bit higher than I want but it'll be worth it!

NO...!
You DO NOT want to do this.

The displays of the MacBook Pros have a VERY THIN sprayed-on antiglare coating.
Almost anything you do to "clean" the screen is going to start degrading this coating.

Your goal should be to "clean the display" AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.

For dust, etc., just "lightly dust" across the surface of the display with a soft cloth.

If something won't come off by doing that, use a moist cloth with AS LITTLE PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE to dislodge the item, then, dust dry.

If you want to see what happens to the antiglare coating when you don't take care of it, google "StainGate images" to see.

Ideally, one should take care to not "get the display dirty" in the first place.

"Carrying bag - shoulder bag, backpack, carrying case. What's a good brand that makes bags/packs/cases that will protect a MBP 16""

If you're going to get any kind of bag, particularly a backpack, you want something that will not put "pressure" on the MBP when it's IN the bag. Otherwise, you may end up with "keyprints" on the surface of the display (because there's very little clearance between the display surface and the keyboard with the lid closed).

Thank you for the heads up! I have a few smudges from my thumb from opening the lid, I think it may be an ongoing problem... Just gently use a microfiber cloth to get those off?

And do you have any recommendations for backpacks or messenger bags in that case? I was gonna get a Timbuk one as suggested above

I suggest that you re-think the method you're using to open the lid...

I also use Anker Banks, but what kind of traveling would you be doing because some of their more pricey power banks without getting the huge ones show that they will charge the MBP to about 50%.

Like others said no screen cleaner though for 95% of screen dust/marks just a good quality microfiber cloth will work and for that last 5% slight water on the cloth I usually just get one corner damp.
