Had a 2011 MBP, just purchased a 2015 rMBP and want to start fresh with applications. What are some of the top applications (not pre-installed) that you use on a daily basis? What are some apps that people might not have heard of that are beneficial? Any mainstream apps to avoid?

What are you using your rMBP for? i.e. photography, video editing, graphics design? I do photography and video editing/production so I'm using Adobe's Creative Cloud Photography program (Lightroom and Photoshop) along with Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5 for video editing and motion graphics.

yep, you'll want to be installing windows 10 onto that bad boy asap.

Why? We need Windows 10 like a fish needs a bicycle. :)

Lol. I felt a subjective question required a subjective response. Nice graphic btw.

Depends very much on what you want to do with your Mac. A software developer needs different apps to a graphic designer who needs different apps to a musician and so on...

Carbon Copy Cloner. Probably one of the best apps I own. Never had to use it yet for anything serious, but it has given me peace of mind that I have bootable copies of my HDD should my it ever fail me. This is an app that is good for everyone whether you are a designer, developer or an accountant.

I might be a little biased but you might want to give FaceAlert a try. It puts that camera to use on your new Macbook and monitors your surroundings to alert you if someone is standing over your shoulder.

This thread never really took off, huh? :D

My essential OS X apps:

- Evernote
- Pixelmator
- 1Password
- Clear
- Spotify
- Alfred 2
- Caffeine
- Crashplan
- Divvy
- Flux
