I'm just exploring "options" -

I really have no clue what Ruby on Rails is, but apparently it's required for me to play around with bourbon for my website projects. I'm just getting into sass, and bourbon is - well I'll quit explaining crap I don't understand.

But nothing will install on El Capitan. It just keeps quitting halfway through the process, spitting terminal junk out at me. I'm uncomfortable enough with the terminal - so no, I definitely won't / don't like it when it gets angry with me. And I have the latest version of Xcode for El Capitan installed - but I can't update it because it requires Sierra.

I'm def not upgrading to High Sierra - I gave that a shot and no thanks. And folks here don't tend to care much for Sierra either? Siri is annoying enough on my phone.

So, I'm perfectly fine sticking with El Capitan on my 2013 rMBP - but can I?

And, moving forward - what do I do if I'm continually forced to upgrade to what the majority seem to consider to be worse and worse OS's just so I can use Xcode? What gives?

The other "workaround" for avoiding the upgrade appears to be using CodeKit? I think? Because I haven't cranked it up to start the 10 day trial yet, because I'm afraid it'll also refuse to work because I'm not on Sierra and don't have the latest Xcode so I can't use Ruby etc etc...

Thanks much for any advice!
