I bought an HDMI to minidisplayport cable for my imac 27 in and my pc tower I just built. But when I plug it in, nothing happens and TDM wont even appear when I press command F2. I had another topic and someone said that you NEED a displayport to minidisplayport for it to work. However I wanted to get it by tomorrow and apple and other retailers only have the DVI to minidisplayport. Will the DVI to MDP work? Or can I only use displayport to minidisplayport?

My GPU: Sapphire 6950 2 gb dirt 3 edition

comes with DVI, HDMI, and a displayport

You can only use Mini DisplayPort, and that adapter you have is only for transferring a signal from MDP to HDMI, not the other way around.
If you want to use the DVI or HDMI output from the PC, you need a converter box to MDP, which cost around 100 USD. It is cheaper to get a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable for less than 10 USD.

Your choices are either a displayport to minidisplayport cable (MUST come directly from the displayport output) or a $150 adapter to use with HDMI that won't even use the full resolution.

Basically you want the displayport to minidisplayport cable that's really cheap.

Here is one for about $3.
