My iPad Air 2 has suddenly been totally muted, speakers and headphones. I'm pretty iPad savvy and have checked what I think is all possible ways to mute the Pad... Do Not Disturb, volume switch, Sounds setting, not connected to a Bluetooth device, etc. Everything looks okay. Reset the iPad to no avail. Any other ideas before I bring it to the Genius Bar?

Did you use the find my iPhone feature to force the iPad to make a sound? I believe that overrides any silence or volume setting, so if it still doesn't work it is probably a physical problem.

Good point. No sound from Find My iPad. Dead speakers apparently.
