Muted sound, still plays.. what the..?

when i have my sound muted on my mbp sound is still playing sometimes, mostly on websites. what the heck is with that?

My MacBook does that to me sometimes.
Does the icon in the menu bar say that its on mute? If it doesn't, press the mute button again to un-mute it, then try muting it again.

yeah that will correct it, but i dont get why it isnt muted to begin with.
