Muting mayhem in TVos15

Since TVos15 when I mute it does what you’d expect but unmuting does nothing and I have to manually increase the volume, this is an odd change and a mild irritation.

Can someone else check they now have this behaviour on their TV under TVos15 and it’s not just me?

Try using your TV's remote to see if it has the same behavior.

I was having some wonkiness with the remote last night so I unplugged my ATV. Give that a try, and also power-cycle any HomePods you might be using.

Immediately after I installed tvOS 15 on my ATV 4K 2017, my new 2021 remote quit working for a few minutes. I restarted the ATV and within a few minutes it started working again. It had turned on trackpad though, which I always keep on Click only. Also the volume levels were a bit wonky for just a few minutes, but cleared up eventually. I think Apple might install the tvOS updates then install a separate update for your remote, which might explain why it doesn’t work for a while and/or acts strange. After the remote finally updates it seems to work fine.

BTW, everything including the remote are now working fine.
