Please can someone help me, I have the Logitech MX Keys and Mater 3 (both for the Mac) yet for some reason they don't actually connect via Bluetooth until the PC is actually loaded - in other words I cannot even log in to my machine. Am I doing something wrong or are both these items an actual waste of time?

This is a known issue. The devices won't work until the drivers are loaded along with the OS, so they won't work until the system is fully booted up.

If you have Filevault enabled - the Logitech web site suggests that you can use the Unifying receiver that came with your MX Keys keyboard. When you are connected with that, you should be able to unlock your Mac.

COMING FROM an apple and mouse keyboard, the bluetooth issue is a problem solved using the usb unifier dongle. I had your same problem, and that's how I fixed it. Definitely both LGT Mouse and keyboard, leave apple's in the dust.

So you have to have the usb dongle attached if you want to use the logi keyboard or mouse to wake up the display with the mb lid closed?

Yes, according to the Logitech site, the unifying reciever can be your work-around to log in, if you are using FileVault.
I believe this is because the native bluetooth won't connect to the logitech mouse until you unlock the drive. The unifying reciever provides the connection from the MX keyboard, so you can use it to unlock the drive.
Or, if you prefer to use the native bluetooth connection (without the receiver/dongle), turn off filevault.

Unless you are not using FileVault -- then I don't know what the issue would be..
