There's a lot to like about the MX Master 3S, but I have to admit the scrolling on macOS has never felt right. The default software is so bloated and bad that I don't use it at all, I use the lean SteerMouse. I've tried Mos which makes the clunky scrolling super smooth, but nauseatingly and imprecise... just feels nothing like a trackpad. Is the Magic Mouse the only mouse on macOS that scrolls correctly or what?

Currently using a Steel Series sensei 310 ambi which scrolls well, and a Logi Lift for Mac that scrolls well also. I think there are many options available. If you walk through an electronics store you might be able to try before you buy. I used MX Master 3S for a while and gave it to my wife, it did not feel good enough (compared to my other to) to keep as my daily driver.

I kinda fixed it using a 3rd party software.

Now the scrolling feels more natural and smooth like on my iPP. You can customize it to your liking. I've been using this software since the MX Master 3 with no issues.

In regards to the MX Master 4 I really do think that Logitech improved the materials used on the shell. Because after a month I would normally start seeing wear on the palm rest and buttons. With the 4 it still looks brand new, so far so good.

I am a bit underwhelmed by the MX 4. I don’t own one - I have the MX 3. I’m just not sure whether the extra button and slight change in ergonomics is worth it. I’ve been using my MX 3 for over 4 years now. It has held up really well, apart from the weird rubber stickiness where my thumb rests. How does the big thumb button on the MX 4 feel? I have always felt the one on the MX 3 wasn’t completely comfortable to activate.

I had the 3 and now use the 4. The thumb button on the 3 was more of a press down, and like you said, awkward to press. The four is more of a press inward (squeeze your thumb toward your palm) and much easier to activate.

Other than that and the third button you pointed out, not much difference.

The hard plastic coating on the mouse surface does stay much cleaner and avoids the sticky rubberized surface of the 3.

I'm using the 4 with Steermouse rather than the Logi Options drivers.

It's haptic so you can turn it all the way off and it won't click. Or you can make the clicks as light as you want.

Thanks for your impressions. Very useful. I knew that the thumb button had been improved but I wasn’t sure how. And yes, the downward press is awkward, inward activation makes a lot more sense.

I was kinda interested in the Action Ring Feature until I discovered I could use it with the MX 3. I’m not a fan of Logi software, though. I used to use SteerMouse twenty years ago. For a long time, it was one of the first things I installed on my Mac. I’ll pick it up again if I get a MX 4. Thanks :)

Interesting. I wasn’t aware of the haptics. Good to know. The feature sounds like it could be useful, if enough third-party software supports it.

Just a heads up... none of that haptics stuff works with Steermouse. All the other buttons work though.

Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected as much. I am not a big fan of Logi software. I might forgo haptics just to avoid it. SteerMouse is solid and venerable. :)
