Ever since I got my 16” MacBook Pro (which is my first experience with Catalina), I have found that it wakes up for all sorts of notifications such as emails and texts. lt’s a bit difficult to be sure if it’s really sleeping at all, but I think it is as the fans will turn off after a little bit. This is annoying when I have it connected to my desktop displays, since all of the screens will turn on for a few seconds each time this happens. But it’s also concerning because I think it is probably also happening when it is closed and in my bag.

Power Nap is not enabled. Is this just a bug with Catalina?

Noticed that mine doesn't sleep by itself - leaving it to its own devices means it's warm to touch, for example the next morning. Have to explicitly select apple > sleep menu option, which is fine unless you're running the backups...

This Catalina's a bit too iPhone/iPad for my liking.

I've disabled the wake on sleep as I've had the thing nigh-on cook itself in my bag.

I just thought I would bump this to check if others are seeing the same thing. If so, is this an intentional change like making any key on the keyboard turn on the computer, even when it is off? Or is it a bug?

Intentional. Also Power Nap should be disabled on battery.

I have it disabled for both and yet this still happens, at least when plugged in (I haven’t really checked if it happens on battery since the main way I notice it is when my external displays light up every time I get an email or notification.)

There is no way to make the system actually sleep and not be receiving notifications anymore? What is the difference between having Power Nap on and off?

EDIT: To answer my own question, I think this issue is actually related to "Enhanced notifications" that can wake your Mac up from sleep. I think enabling the setting that turns Do Not Disturb on when the display is sleeping should stop it, although I haven't actually tested this out yet.
