My 2009 iMac only shows a white screen but work with a remote monitor

For about 3 years now I have been using a remote monitor as my mac screen is white. Apparently I saw on another thread that the AMD Radeon video card was found defective. Has anyone else heard about that.
When I took it to the Genius bar (3 years ago) they said I needed to replace the LCD ($550) and I left.

I believe that you're doing "all that you can do" right now.

That is, ignoring the internal display and using an external one.

A 2009 iMac is getting a little old to be spending much money on.

That $$$ would go betters towards something new.
