my 2009 macbook pro 15" is making noises

Sounds like your harddrive.

Run Disk Utility and check the integrity of the harddrive.

i had a very similar issue and i found out it was spotlight trying to index my bootcamp partition.. after I set it to exclude bootcamp, it would go silent..

Mine does the same... keeps parking the drive heads and this makes a clicking sound.
