Is this normal?

I have everything turned on and 40% screen brightness.

Only usage was emails.

my guess is that the percentage meter is way off sometimes. I'm thinking about turning mine off too...

You should turn off the battery percentage. For your own sake.

I agree! :D

Here is what Apple says to expect. Test at your leisure!

Talk time:
Up to 12 hours on 2G
Up to 5 hours on 3G

* Standby time: Up to 300 hours
*

Internet use:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi

* Video playback: Up to 10 hours
* Audio playback: Up to 30 hours

I have found mine will drop a % or 2 pretty quickly within the first 15 to 30 minutes, then it goes quite well. ~80% in about 3 hours, but now 9 hours after removed from the charger, I am at 60%.

There is no way this phone can use wifi for 9 hours.

I am on wifi here at work.

I am down 5% for about 10 minutes of email only (Push).

If I started using safari there is no way this thing will even get more than 3 hours on wifi.

Technically, its kind of normal, it just seems bad. 5% in 9 minutes means you get 180 minutes or 3 hours. And thats if you did that for 3 hours straight. I dont agree with it, but I think its because % dwindling before your eyes makes it seem worse than it really is.

Do you forget that being on standby is also using battery?
9 minutes of usage and an hour plus on standby is going to knock you down 5%.

Geeze, at that rate you'd only get 3 and a half hours of usage and 20 hours of standby...

That is what I am getting

I get about 3-4 hours of use max with about 20 on standby.

When using safari, I can see the % drop every few minutes.

Is this battery a dud?

so today i checked the app store for updates, sent a few good morning texts...checked the meter and it was down to 95%...hopefully the next update fixes this...its def becoming a common theme....

How can that be standard?

Apple says 5 hours 3g 9 hours wifi.

I get about 3.5 hours on 3g.

There is no way to get 9 hours on wifi - what are they smoking?

That's 5 hours straight. Not 5 hours with 20 hours of standby.
And it's with email set to manual, and screen at half brightness.

I became obsessed with watching the %-meter, so it just had to go. I worry enough already about if the phone will last if I'm out and about all day...like I'm a desert island and have to ration out my e-mail and web use.

Yup. Personally, I hate it. I find myself watching it all the time, caring far more about battery life/consumption than is necessary.

Check my earlier posts from battery life. I was able to get 6.5 hours doing heavy 3G surfing, but turned wifi, Bluetooth and push off. Used it pretty much non-stop, downloaded 4 songs, played a game and listened to iPod while skipping through multiple tracks. So, unless you're sitting at your desk, constantly on your iPhone, you should get a normal days usage from your iPhone, granted that you have a good battery.

Just make sure to charge for at least one, if not two hours past the battery showing full because the battery and percentage meters aren't always on point. A number of us are taking the phone off of the charger before it's really fully charged. I know that's not a perfect scenario but maybe it'll help a few people on here see the true potential of their iPhone batteries.

There are issues with the battery.... I made a thread with pics but the thread police aka Que decided it wasn't worthy.... to many about the battery I guess. My phone was getting hot when charging and very poor life. This is push off, 50% auto brite, location off, bt off, 3g and wifi on,

I did a fresh firmware install and set up as a new iPhone and it has improved but Im still not 100% satisified.... Ill have to wait and see how "good" it gets.

I turned my battery percentage off too. Thought it was really cool at first but found myself 'freaking' out over it more than I should be.

Now it's off and all is better.
