My AEBS is unknown to Apple

A few months ago I bought an AEBS from someone on Craigslist. Works great and everything, but recently I tried looking up the Serial number just so I could see when it was purchased, but when I enter the sn on Apples website I get this:

We could not recognize the serial number you entered. Please re-enter it, making sure each letter or number is correct.

I made sure it was correct and everything, but still nothing comes up. I have the box and it also has the same serial number on it.

Anyone know what this could mean?

Lol, yeah I'm sure. If it is, then it's a wonderfully working cheap knockoff that works great with Airport Utility.

Could this indicate that it is stolen or something?

BTW it is a pre-gigabit model.
